We all know that the tools make the man—or something like that. But honestly, what’s more important than the tools you need every day to do your job well? Can you imagine changing your oil without a socket wrench or building a web application without your handy HTML tool? Well, stuck in a similar situation, Alltrade tools had all the machinery it needed to keep its customers happy, but it lacked the tool to automate report distribution and help keep its business running smoothly and efficiently and control growing operating costs.
January 27, 2009 – The environmental benefits of using electronic documents are well known. Fewer trees cut down for pulp and less waste and pollution in our landfills and our skies. And now, inFORM Decisions has further extended the benefits of electronic documents by joining an Arbor Day Foundation program that will result in 10 trees being planted every time a customer buys IFD’s i OS document or payment management software.

Today is Earth Day, and that means you’re supposed to think about ways to save the environment from the world’s most destructive force: man. One relatively painless method is eliminating the use of paper in favor of electronic documents, and to do that, you need an electronic document management software solution. One company developing native System i (i, i5/OS, OS/400) document management software, inFORM Decisions, recently updated its suite of products to in hopes of helping customers stay in the green.

InFORM Decisions adds the ability to design iSeries forms and map data to them from Windows and Adobe applications in iDocs 4.0, its document-management solution for the iSeries. The new feature, called iMap, lets users map data from downloaded iSeries spool files to new forms via a double-paned window via drag-and-drop. iDocs 4.0 also enhances navigation, adds an output queue monitor in the iMail module to facilitate distribution of spool files via e-mail, and improves the product’s message handling.

Inform Decisions improves the routing and security features of its electronic form development tool with the release of iDocs 3.93. A new Smart Routing feature automates spool file sorting and relocates spool files to an alternative queue if a destination e-mail address isn’t found. It also enables the extraction of fax umbers and e-mail addresses from spool files.

InFORM Decisions has revamped its PDF Enabler with the ability to convert documents from PCL format to PDF. PDF Enabler runs on the iSeries, Linux, Unix, and Windows servers and lets users output forms and reports as PDF files. Other changes in V2.07 include the ability to link to any Windows application with a Dynamic Linked Library (DLL) and to handle soft fonts in documents, such as barcodes, magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) codes, True Type fonts, and other downloadable fonts.

InFORM Decisions releases iView 2.0, an enhanced version of its document and report archiving and distribution solution for the iSeries. Version 2.0 adds the ability to output documents as Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files; supports a range of criteria (e.g., a range of invoice numbers or dates) for document search values; and lets users define search indexes and sorting sequences and retrieve documents via spool file attributes.

inFORM Decisions, a software company that develops document management software for IBM’s midrange AS/400s and iSeries servers, last week launched a new suite of document management software that runs on Microsoft Windows operating systems. iDocs for NT has the same basic capabilities and features as inFORM’s iDocs Suite, with the main difference being that it reads the ASCII print datastream instead of the proprietary print datastream used exclusively in IBM iSeries and mainframe computers.
